Your Opportunity

As a Sr. Performance Engineer you are responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting performance testing systems and strategies to ensure that Schwab & TD Ameritrade market data applications maintain optimal resiliency under changing user loads and no bugs or errors reach our clients while trading / investing on the platform.

What you are good at

  • Create comprehensive performance test plans which ensure all important performance capabilities of the system under test are assessed.
  • Interact with business and development resources to identify correct workloads and performance Service Level Agreements (SLA’s).
  • Create and maintain performance / stress / capacity / resiliency / load test scripts for multiple projects.
  • Troubleshoot test environment issues; ensuring the test environments are operational before any tests are executed.
  • Execute performance / stress / capacity / resiliency / load tests as needed.
  • Provide detailed test reports to support accurate evaluations of systems under test prior to release to production.
  • Leverage application monitoring tools to support testing; examples would be AppD, Splunk, Tivoli and BMC.
  • Review logs and monitoring of disk I/O, CPU and memory for any performance-related issues.
  • Report performance-related defects to Delivery teams; work with these teams to support further debugging and root-cause analysis.
  • Create test runbooks.
  • Design and maintain test simulators at the network level for packets testing
  • Periodically review workloads and SLAs with business and development partners to ensure alignment with current production levels.
  • Periodically conduct peer-reviews of application performance test results ensuring (a) accuracy, (b) clarity, and (c) completeness.

What you have

  • 7+ years of related overall experience in Software or Systems Engineering
  • 4+ years of performance software testing experience
  • 4+ years of using performance testing tools (e.g. Performance Center, Jmeter, Gatling)
  • Demonstrates a solid understanding of software development lifecycles
  • Strong analytical, organizational and problem solving/decision making skills
  • 4+ years’ experience in Windows, LINUX, UNIX, JAVA, Web Services, SQL Server, Oracle
  • 4+ years’ experience scripting in Unix/Linux
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a team setting as well as independently with minimal error and guidance
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience working with securities and exchange market data business a plus
  • 4 year college degree in Computer Science or related field
