The Schwab Cybersecurity Services (SCS) organization is a centralized Center of Excellence (COE) that provides security services to advance Schwab’s security posture and enhance the protection of Schwab’s critical assets. The Technology Risk and Cybersecurity Compliance (TRACC) team within SCS supports Schwab’s commitment to safeguarding information and computing resources through the solid cyber and technology risk management practices. As Senior Manager, Data Privacy, you will be an individual contributor working within a small team within TRACC with a prioritized focus on managing privacy risk specific to safeguarding electronic personal information.  In partnership with Legal and second line of defense teams, you will help identify new and changed privacy guidance and requirements that would potentially impact technology or cybersecurity.  This role will also work closely with various teams across the first and second lines of defense to manage data privacy risk.

What you are good at


  • Driving efforts to handle privacy risk from a cybersecurity and information technology perspective across the first line of defense, including activities to implement, assess, and monitor effective privacy risk management.
  • Performing privacy impact assessments (PIAs).
  • Engaging in data incident response coordination in partnership with the Data Incident Response Team.
  • Providing consultation and support to cybersecurity and technology teams to ensure adherence with applicable security and technology policies and standards as well as the Privacy Risk Policy and Privacy Standards;
  • Identifying new or changing privacy requirements that would impact technology or cybersecurity.
  • Coordinating with other lines of defense to ensure appropriate response and action for updated requirements.
  • Collaborating with the necessary teams to identify potential gaps, recommend appropriate controls, and implement “business as usual” activities that may result from privacy requirements.
  • Demonstrating an understanding of data privacy laws and regulations.

What you have


  • 10+ years of relevant experience in Cybersecurity and Privacy.
  • Familiar with the concept of Privacy by Design (PbD) and experience in implementing PbD in organizations.
  • Demonstrable understanding of regulatory landscape for financial services industry with an emphasis on requirements including Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA), General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), NYDFS Cybersecurity Regulation, and individual state breach notification and cybersecurity laws.
  • Firm grasp of information technology and cybersecurity risk management/governance principles, methodologies, and tools in a financial services environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and a consistent track record of building effective working relationships with internal business partners.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize and handle multiple projects and succeed in a fast-paced, full workload environment.
  • Excellent judgment and critical thinking in order to provide sound strategic advice to business partners.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information systems or other related fields.
  • Candidates with relevant Cybersecurity certifications like CDPSE, CISM, CISA, or CISSP are preferred.
