The Schwab Cybersecurity Services (SCS) team is responsible for implementing the firm’s cybersecurity and technology risk strategy which includes security architecture, security operations monitoring (SOC), cybersecurity incident response, implementing and operating the necessary security tools, controls, and approaches to meet policies and standards, testing, regulatory support, and risk management. As a Technology Risk Manager Lead, you will report to the Director of Technology Policy and Standard Governance (TPSG) and be responsible for supporting the process for the review of STS Policies and Standards managed by the Standard Governance Office (SGO). You will conduct an analysis of industry control frameworks to identify gaps in Schwab’s standard and controls. This information will used to facilitate updates to policy and standard content to assure Management that Policies and Standards meet regulatory requirements and that the content aligns with key security frameworks. You will partner across the TRACC and other Technology organizations to review Policies and Standard align controls to Schwab’s Technology and Cybersecurity standards.

What you are good at

The Technology Risk Manager is responsible for maturing and supporting the governance framework and structure by facilitating change and coordinating key activities across the policy and standard governance process. These responsibilities will include analyzing technology policy and standard content for reasonableness, assessing change impact, maintaining a schedule and pipeline of topics, and partnering with the First Line Risk Management Office to ensure we are meeting requirements. You’ll help Process Owners and Subject Matter Experts create their technology and cybersecurity standards including ensuring the proper alignment to industry frameworks and internal controls.


  • Partner with Standard Owners and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to gather standard requirements
  • Work with the IT Governance Leader and IT Risk and Controls team to ensure policy and standard requirements are aligned to the governance framework
  • Facilitate the creation and governance of technology and cybersecurity standards.
  • Create, adapt, and follow project schedules and deadlines with the ability to identify, apprise management of, and shift competing priorities as needed
  • Monitor compliance deadlines and assess compliance readiness
  • Coordinate compilation of materials for governance committees
  • Perform quality checks of materials submitted for Standard Governance Advisory and Executive committees managed by the SGO
  • Partner with First Line Risk Management Office (1RMO) to ensure SGO complies with enterprise governance requirements as needed.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of the purpose, audience, process, and documentation required by Standard Governance Advisory and Executive committees and incorporate requirements in to the SGO process.
  • Assist with maintaining standard in GRC system of record (SOR)

What you have

  • 6+ years of experience in Governance, Risk Management and/or Cybersecurity, Technology Operations
  • Previous experience in the financial services or regulatory industry
  • Advanced skill level in Microsoft Word required; Atlassian Confluence and SharePoint experience preferred
  • Communication skills - ability to take complex, technical information and translate it for colleagues and consumers who have non-technical backgrounds and be able to communicate at all levels
  • Organized and Detail oriented – ability to bring disparate information from various teams and organize it in a detailed manner that creates and maintains logical structure
  • Strong Analytical skills – be able to analyze information for reasonableness and provide sound challenge when data/content seems invalid or illogical
  • Teamwork - must be able to work well with others, organize teams, establish direction and approach, resolve conflict, and deliver tough messages with grace
  • Risk Management skills – must have an understanding of risks, controls, issues, remediation, governance, and industry frameworks
  • Strong writing skills - must have excellent writing skills to be able to explain technical information clearly.
  • Ability to recognize project/progress barriers and resolve them effectively
  • Proven ability to quickly build relationships and earn the trust of sponsors and key stakeholders
  • Ability to navigate a highly matrixed organization effectively
  • Sound business and technical acumen
  • BA/BS Degree in Information Security, Cybersecurity, Business Administration, is preferred
