Schwab is hiring a Senior Systems Engineer to join our highly visible Trade Plant team with expertise leading technical projects and efforts across critical applications in a fast-paced complex production support environment. The Trade Plant's engineers monitor and strategically improve resiliency, DevOps, automation and also lead remediation efforts accross multiple production teams for critical trading platforms. Skills and experience in .NET, Windows, Database, Storage and Messaging are a plus. Options for remote work available.

What you are good at


  • Serve on a 24x7 production support team on rotation.
  • Real-Time troubleshooting/analysis of application issues in production. 
  • Perform troubleshooting/debugging, issue triaging.
  • Lead efforts in the design and implementation to process improvements in our Production Services and Operations.
  • Identify bottlenecks and problems throughout the infrastructure.
  • Prefer to build automation to perform redundant tasks rather than manually handling toil.
  • Manage and support applications within Cloud
  • Develop predictive analytics and monitoring for critical infrastructure.

What you have


  • Linux or Windows system administration, troubleshooting and tuning.
  • Experience with logging and monitoring tools like Splunk, Grafana and AppDynamics
  • Good understanding of network and routing
  • Good judgment and the ability to handle stressful situations.
  • Knowledge of Web technologies: languages, frameworks, techniques, industry trends, etc. that includes .Net or Java
  • Knowledge of one or more databases such as: Oracle, SQL, Mongo.
  • Familiarity with Cloud technologies such as:  PCF, Azure, AWS, Google
  • Preferred experience with GIT, GITFlow, JIRA, Confluence and Agile frameworks.
  • Strong desire to learn new technologies and be a catalyst for change
  • Passion for problem solving and developing solutions using technology; self-starter mindset
  • ISP and/or carrier backbone engineering experience/knowledge
  • conceptual Firewall, Load-Balancing, Routing & Switch knowledge
  • Knowledge of distributed systems and messaging architectures such as MQ, Kafka is a plus

Required Skills:

  • Experience in providing support of highly available web application support.
  • Experience in on-call rotation.
  • Experience in troubleshooting/debugging application issues, and determine resolution with various areas, for example:  IT Operations, Change Management, Availability, Network team, Server team, Product Management, etc.
  • Solid understanding of application architecture: application layer, database layer, network layer.
  • Knowledge of IP networking including TCP,UDP, DNS, DHCP, firewalls, IP routing, etc

  • Extreme sense of ownership to resolve problems in a distributed environment.
  • Well organized, with the ability to express precise and clear in written and verbal forms.

Colorado Compensation ​
Target Total Compensation - $98,000 - $176,400 per year​
