Wealth Strategies Group (WSG) is a fast-growing business unit within the Investor Advice Solutions organization. This group delivers complex education, planning and consulting focusing on ultra-high net worth clients and their families. As a Senior Family Consultant, you will work closely with ultra-high net worth prospects and clients to learn more about their financial goals with a focus on family dynamics to help clients fulfill their complex planning needs. The Senior Family Consultant role is integral to the delivery and success of Schwab’s modern wealth management experience and plays a critical role in expanding our support of ultra-high net worth clients and families. The Senior Family Consultant will report to the Director of Wealth Strategies Group.

What you are good at


As a Senior Family Consultant, you will apply your understanding of behavioral psychology to navigate family dynamics ensuring there is a solid family financial plan that meets financial goals, and a path to uphold their legacy. You will work in a cross-functional role engaging with internal partners, existing clients, and prospects to deepen relationships through expert guidance and consulting on behavioral psychology, generational wealth transfer, and legacy planning. Additionally, you will be responsible for:

  • Having a thorough understanding of behavioral psychology, effective communication skills, trust building and conflict resolution.
  • Partnering with multiple subject matter experts to develop comprehensive wealth preservation, wealth transfer and philanthropic strategies to meet complex legacy and family needs
  • Facilitating multi-generational family meetings with specialization in the areas of elder care, special needs, family support and conflict resolution
  • Supporting household engagement and retention efforts of the relationship owner

What you have


  • Undergraduate degree required; Master’s degree preferred
  • 10+ years’ experience in family counseling, behavioral psychology, or behavioral finance
  • Polished interpersonal, communication and presentation skills, attention to detail
  • Collaborative and flexible mindset
  • Strong ownership and responsibility mindset
  • Skilled in communicating complex concepts, and solutions in easy-to-understand terms
  • Background and interest in understanding client and family characteristics including family governance, managing family conflict, and dynamics of family wealth is a plus
  • Demonstrates interpersonal effectiveness to build trust across all interested parties especially high profile and confidential clients
  • Establishes rapport to gather pertinent information for stated and unstated needs
  • Certified as a Behavioral Finance Advisor (BFA), Divorce Financial Advisor (DFA),Accredited Behavioral Finance Professional (ABFP), or Certified Financial Behavior Specialist (FBS) is a plus
